Ray Johnson follow-up

I am currently working on a conference paper about Ray Johnson. As part of that process, I revisited some images of some of the works that were exhibited (and I had seen) at the Matthew Marks Gallery (New York City) in 2017. This work, in particular, struck me. When you first see this two-piece artwork, it appears to be cut an "shifted". But upon closer inspection, you realize that the two pieces aren't "shifted", but rather are still aligned. The parts that were cut out, were done so that it gives the illusion of being "shifted". I think this is a bit of a testament to Johnson's genius.

Katonah Museum of Art

Wow! Saw an absolutely wonderful exhibit on Saturday at the Katonah Art Museum. The exhibit was entitled "Miniature Worlds" (not the best title), and featured artworks and lots of documentation of the friendships of Joseph Cornell, Ray Johnson, and Yayoi Kusama. Anyone who has followed this blog at all, knows that I am a HUGE fan of both Ray Johnson and Joseph Cornell. Needless to say, I was in 7th Heaven at this exhibit. Here is a collection of images from the day!

Re-find!

I’ve been doing a MASSIVE studio clean-up and re-organization. I have SO much stuff that has accumulated over the years… I’m not even sure what I have anymore. To wit… I found this element in a pile last night. I was SO excited to re-discover it! There are some potentially cool elements I can extract; but, believe it or not, I am most excited about the border. I have used something like it before, to great effect. AND, I have TWO of these!!! Such a a great “re-find”!

Rainy day

It's a pleasant rainy Sunday afternoon, and I'm fairly caught up with school work; so it was a good time to finish-up a couple pieces that were sitting around waiting for completion. Both of these are 5" x 7". The zipper piece is entitled "Revelation". I have not yet titled the other one. And, "yes", the person featured in this one, is the same person featured in the previous "Kickin' It" post. Can anyone identify him?

"Kickin' It"

The top image shown here is the final version of my latest piece, entitled "Kickin' It" (5" x 7"). The images below it are some of the variations that I had considered.

Tony Thompson "in the house"!

I was so appreciative and honored, once again, to have my friend and fellow artist Tony Thompson come into my Psychology & Visual Arts course as a guest speaker. He talked about his life and his interests in art, and then had a great "show-and-tell" with his various art works. Thank you, Tony! You can check out his work on instagram at AMT315. Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts postcard

I was excited to see my artwork featured on the postcard for the 2023 Regional Art show at the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts (Gloversville, NY) when I got my mail yesterday. There were 110 pieces from which to choose. I'm appreciative that they chose mine as one of four to be featured.
