Here is the finished product for this year's Sculpture Space CHAIRity auction. Sometimes people ask how I come up with titles for pieces. Of course, there are varied inspirations; from puns, to descriptions, to "mini-stories". The title for this piece was inspired by the title of the original engraving "Filial Affection - Going to Church/Sunday Morning". The title of the skull-headed fly piece was "somewhat random" (of course, nothing is ever random or somewhat random, is it?). "Ort" just seemed like a weird enough small title for the piece. I suppose you could think of this two-headed fly as looking at the broken skull as a source of food two (and it hints to the scavengerious nature of flies... "cannibalism"?).

finishing details
Here is "Blind Faith" (4.5" x 4.25") unframed and framed. I thought it might be interesting to show the finished product in contrast to an earlier post which showed the piece in sub-standard lighting and without elements being painted on the edges (to cover the white interior of the paper) and without elements tacked down.

Sculpture Space 2015
When I moved back to the Utica area in 1999, I was "exposed to" the Annual CHAIRity auction at Sculpture Space. CHAIRity is one of their major fundraisers and traditionally featured chairs that various artists adorned with creative manipulation. More recently, two-dimensional pieces have dominated the selection of artworks (including mine). I have posted Sculpture Space CHAIRity photos (in the fall) often on this blog. Last year, I broke my personal best in terms of bids on my piece. So this year I was feeling a little stressed about getting a piece started AND making sure it would be "up to my standards". Tonight I think the piece emerged from my sketches!!! I need to decide whether I should go with the integrated, "color-coordinated" look; or whether I should go for the starker contrast and "mod" look. By the way, this piece needs a lot of "finishing touches" on the details before it's complete. Feel free to comment about your preference.

post-exhibit exuberance
Well... there's nothing like having an exhibit and interacting with other artists to get you in an exuberant space. I got back in my studio tonight to clean-up and organize (what's new!?)... and to maybe get some sketches done. It didn't take long at all until I started experimenting with some elements and compositions. I did two small sketches tonight. One will definitely turn into a permanent piece. The other... we'll see. Anyway, here they are...

THANKS FOR COMING TO THE OPENING THIS EVENING!
If you have scanned "QR Monkeybrain" this evening, you have linked to my blog (this blog). I post my works and the works of others on this site and make commentary about creating collage. Here are a couple photos of Anthony and me working on collage and enjoying a hike in the Adirondacks after a Molecule Void show.
Hope you visit often. Again, thanks for coming this evening. Hope you enjoyed the show!
